Notre Dame Campus Dining recently partnered with Food Rescue US: an organization dedicated to providing “food for all”. Through a network of food donors, food runners, and partner agencies, Food Rescue US facilitates the transfer of fresh food that would have otherwise been discarded to food insecure families throughout the US.
Au Bon Pain and Au Bon Pain Express are currently food donors and need volunteer food runners. Using their own cars, food runners pick up excess food from these campus locations and drive it directly to local receiving agencies (the Center for the Homeless and Hope Ministries) that feed our hungry neighbors. It typically takes only about 30 minutes to complete this incredibly rewarding and essential delivery mission.
The available volunteer slots are:
Au Bon Pain (in the Hesburgh Library)
7:00am pickups, Monday-Friday
9:00am pickups, Saturday and Sunday
Au Bon Pain Express (in the Hesburgh Center for International Studies)
Pickups anytime between 3:00 - 4:00pm, Monday-Friday
Those who are interested in volunteering should contact Caitlin Murphy, campus Food Rescue US coordinator, at cmurph21@nd.edu.
Supporting Campus Dining’s partnership with Food Rescue U.S. not only helps reduce
food waste, but supports the University’s commitment to community engagement for the
common good.
