At McCain® Foods, potatoes are more than just a crop—they are the foundation of a global mission to produce food responsibly and sustainably. In 2025, this commitment is clearer than ever, as McCain continues to lead the way in transforming potato farming, processing, and community impact.
Cultivating a Sustainable Future
Across the globe, McCain works with over 4,400 farmers to ensure the potatoes reaching our tables are grown with care—for the soil, the environment, and the people who cultivate them. In 2025, the company is making strong strides toward its 2030 sustainability goals. Greenhouse gas emissions from potato operations (Scope 1 & 2) have already dropped 28.4% since 2017, putting McCain on track for a 50% absolute reduction by 2030. Renewable electricity now powers over 60% of potato production, surpassing the mid-decade target, while water-use efficiency in seven priority plants has increased by 18.8%, exceeding the 15% milestone. Together, these achievements highlight McCain’s commitment to responsibly managing resources while producing the potatoes that feed millions every day.
Packaging Progress
98.5% of McCain potato packaging is recyclable, reusable, or compostable. While this falls just short of the company’s 100% goal, it’s a significant achievement and reflects strong progress, overcoming logistical challenges across global supply chains. It’s a milestone worth celebrating as McCain continues working toward full alignment in the coming years.
Healthy, Simple, and Transparent
Nutrition and ingredient integrity are at the heart of McCain’s potato portfolio. Reformulations across multiple regions have reduced sodium by up to 46%, while voluntary front-of-pack labeling in 12 markets empowers consumers to make informed choices. Artificial colors and flavors have been removed from new potato products, ensuring that every fry is simple, recognizable, and consistent with the company’s Clean Ingredient Policy.
Supporting Communities
McCain’s work with potatoes doesn’t stop at the farm gate. In 2025, the company donated millions of meals through partnerships with local food banks and NGOs, while thousands of employee volunteer hours supported community projects that improve food security. From helping small-scale farmers increase household income to creating school gardens that supply fresh produce, McCain’s efforts show how potatoes can be a force for good—feeding people while nurturing local economies.
Responsible Sourcing and Regenerative Practices
McCain continues to raise the bar on sustainable food production. The company has advanced its responsible sourcing commitments for key ingredients with regenerative agriculture practices being implemented across all potato acreages. These practices improve soil health, boost biodiversity, and reduce externalities such as greenhouse gas emissions and eutrophication. RSPO segregated palm oil is now used in 46% of frying operations, and 100% cage-free eggs are used across the portfolio, reflecting a holistic approach to responsible food production.
Through these efforts, McCain® Foods is demonstrating that sustainable practices are possible in high-volume agriculture—by combining high-quality food, strong communities, and environmental stewardship.
