Danny Bloss
On February 21 and 22, Danny Bloss had the opportunity to compete in the National Ice Carving Competition in Perrysburg, Ohio, where he won 2 bronze medals. Competing in the Pro Division of the competition, he medaled in the single block and double block events.
The competition is put on by the National Ice Carving Association and draws professional ice carvers, most of whom own their own ice carving businesses. Carvers have to qualify to be eligible and are placed in either the Pro or Masters Division.
Danny is no stranger to carving competitions and is the current Michigan Ice Fight Champion. He's traveled as far as Texas to participate in similar events. During the day, he's a Cook at our Food Service Support Facility, but over the past 10 years he's learned how to carve ice and become a source of pride for Food Services. Along with 2 other carvers, Danny creates sculptures for University Catering events and weddings. He also does live demonstrations on and off campus.
Danny takes great pride in his work and is constantly improving his skills and pushing himself to try new things. He's already looking forward to returning to the National Competition next year and adding to his medal collection. We can't wait to see what he'll create next.
