The University of Notre Dame was recognized by Udi’s Gluten Free as the most accommodating college campus for gluten free in the country. Ranking number one over schools like Georgetown University, University of Arizona, and University of Connecticut, Notre Dame is well versed in meeting the needs of gluten free diners.
On a day-to-day basis, Notre Dame Food Services ensures that our dining halls, cafes, and restaurants offer gluten free options for students, faculty, and staff. It is critical to our campus residential mission that those students and guests with dietary issues are able to dine with other students, allowing them the full Notre Dame experience.
In addition to regular offerings in the dining areas, Notre Dame students can meet with the campus Manager of Nutrition and Safety, Jocie Antonelli, RD and be granted access to our gluten free room in North Dining Hall, where students have the option to partake in foods that are safe for them and special preparation tools like a gluten free toaster.
In addition to providing our gluten free room, we train our staff members to avoid cross contamination and to understand the needs of those with allergies and intolerances. We take great pride in knowing that when dining in North or South Dining Hall, or even at a Catering event, our guests can have a meal that is safe.
Over the years the need for gluten free dining has increased and Food Services’ response has risen accordingly. Jocie has noted “it is a great feeling to allow a mom the peace of mind that she is sending her child to a place where he can eat and do so safely.”
