Eat and Drink Your Way Through Campus on Gameday Weekends

Author: Molly Di Carlo

An Iced Latte from Cafe J. Street Tacos from Street Fare. Fried Chicken Sandwich from Rohr’s. Steak and Cheddar Biscuits at the Dining Halls. Mobile ordering from your seat in Notre Dame Stadium. There are so many options when it comes to food and beverages on a gameday weekend, and there’s something for everyone’s taste buds inside the stadium and out. To be prepared, remember that Notre Dame is a cashless campus, and download the Grubhub app in advance.

Friday

With your Grubhub app at your fingertips, check out all the quick service dining options available around campus such as Gipper’s, Street Fare, Starbucks, Garbanzo'sChick-fil-A and more. Ordering is easy - just follow these simple directions. Rohr’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (reservations recommended). Cafe J, inside Morris Inn, is also open for a quick snack or coffee before exploring campus. Make sure to grab a cupcake at Cafe J from Food Network Halloween Baking Championship Winner and Notre Dame Executive Pastry Chef Sinai Vespie. Or, if you’re wandering outside of Notre Dame Stadium, grab a bite or a drink at Legends - less than 100 yards south. Legends closes at 11 p.m., daily. When you’re shopping at the Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore - which we assume is on your to do list - grab a quick pick-me-up from the Gilded Bean.

Saturday

Gameday at Legends is not to be missed. Purchase tickets to the traditional tailgate buffet with food and drink options for everyone and a spirited atmosphere. Walk-ups are accepted pending availability. Continue the celebration and wait out the traffic after day games at the tailgate buffet.

At Morris Inn on gamedays, the Wind Family Fireside Terrace behind the Inn is open before and after games until midnight for light fare and drinks with an outdoor bar and the Rohr’s Food Truck. The new firepits are the perfect al fresco dining experience. Inside Morris Inn, also known as the "living room of the University," Cafe J opens at 6 a.m. and is a great place to get coffee or the cupcake of the month.  Rohr’s is open beginning at 7:30 a.m and is also a great spot for a post game nightcap.

Experience the long-standing tradition of Candlelight Dinners in our dining halls by attending at least one this season. Dating back to the 1940s, Candlelight Dinners give the community an opportunity to celebrate an Irish win and feast in the traditional communal dining that increases fellowship. After day games, South Dining Hall is open for its storied Candlelight Dinners and North Dining Hall offers a similar Tailgate Buffet. For night games, both dining halls offer a lunchtime meal from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Meals prices are found here and walk-ins are accepted. Reserve your spot (no Candlelight Dinners on night game weekends)

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat with pizza, cookies, and other desserts, Gipper's is a great option located on the south side of South Dining Hall until 2 p.m. Order in person via kiosks or via the Grubhub mobile app.

You just can’t beat the aroma of tailgating at Notre Dame on a gameday weekend. If you’re planning your own tailgate (or any gathering throughout the weekend!) and want to make it easy on yourself, check out our campus pick up and delivery catering options. On Fridays, choose from Chick-Fil-A, Garbanzo, Au Bain Pain, Starbucks, Modern Market and Three Leaf Express. On Saturdays, check out the special tailgate menu from Three Leaf Express on gameday. Around campus, many student groups and dorms have fundraisers. The Knights of Columbus have been selling steak sandwiches outside Counsel Hall on South Quad since the 1960s. Proceeds from the sandwiches go to a variety of non-profit organizations. Nelson’s Chicken can also usually be found in the shadow of the stadium.

You’ll also score touchdowns with your tastebuds inside Notre Dame Stadium. Taste test new options such as the Bacon Jam Smash Brisket Burger, Rockne Brat, Pot of Gold Nachos and more.  Check out the new and local fare in the Concessions Map in the Fighting Irish app. Chick-fil-A, Nelson's BBQ, Ben's Pretzel, Connie's Pizza, Savory Kernel are just some of the great grub you'll find. Use these step-by-step instructions to order.
