Biography
As the Executive Director of Institutional Dining Strategy, David McDonald leads comprehensive initiatives that enhance the campus culinary and dining experiences through innovative programs, strategic partnerships, and sustainable practices. With nearly three decades of experience in higher education operations and hospitality, he is committed to inclusive, student-centered dining environments that promote well-being, community engagement, and university culture.
Prior to joining Notre Dame, David served as Assistant Vice President for Housing and Dining at Rice University, where he provided strategic leadership for the residential colleges, graduate housing, and dining operations. His work is guided by a collaborative leadership style and a commitment to advancing the mission and values of Our Lady’s University.
David holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Business Management. He enjoys cultivating cross-campus partnerships and delivering exceptional service within complex environments while contributing to initiatives that strengthen campus life and a sense of belonging.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, David enjoys spending time with family, mentoring students, exploring emerging culinary trends, travel, architecture, and hiking.
